wow!! losing your finger tips must have been a hard time but you are very influential! from the first few words that you spoke i felt as if i could relate to myself. i really think that Lisa Ann Cox going around telling people about her story and what she’s trying to i think promote is fascinating yet she astounds me by how she can overcome what bad things have happened to her. She’s right, it’s the inner sense that matters. My hair isn’t even up to my shoulders and I’m a girl! this is partially because mum wants the hair to stay out of my face whilst doing things such as school work. the response i got when i first went back to school after the haircut was mixed. some didn’t care but others hated it. Lisa Cox made me feel much better when she was speaking to all the girls in my high school. i loved the fact that she striving for a better world.

p.s. Lisa: i love reading but i can’t find this book in stores. i don’t trust online buying so if possible could you locate a place in New South Wales, Australia close to Sydney where I can glimpse through the book and if I’ve saved enough I would definitely buy it! You really changed my life and I adore you. My world has been enlightened by you and I feel special that I am who I am not some model who has to be skinny. Even though I am receiver of what others put in magazines I now feel a sense of anger towards the magazines for airbrushing their ads, etc. However I still read some magazines that have a better reputation.

I found your story really inspiring.
I find it intriguing that you can have gone through so much and can stand up and talk about it all like that.
My friends and i saw a lot of truth in your presentation.
The media tries to create the perfect image of a skinny body but really all that matters about a person is their personality and how they treat others.
I plan on buying your book because i support your ideas and probably need the handbook.

goodluck in the future and i hope you get through to people like you have gotten through to me

hey Lisa, you came to my school today and I would have to say you are one of the most amazing people I have ever met.

My name is Aimee and I’m in year 10, you are such an inspiration to me, I had a bacteria called Necrotizing Fasciitis (flesh eating bacteria), in my leg, and I spent 6 months in Westmead Children’s Hospital, I was in a coma for about a week, on life support, and my parents were told I was extremely lucky to live, then later on I was told that I had the chance that if the bacteria didn’t go away, that they would have to remove my whole leg. Luckily, they didn’t have to, but it took over 90 separate operations, the surgeons removed one of my muscles in my leg, and after all of that, I had to have a pump attached to my leg for about 4 months, it was extremely painful, and at times, it felt like I was in so much pain, that I was dying.

You are a hero to me, you have been through so much, and you still stay so positive.
I try my hardest to stay positive, but sometimes it seems like it’s never going to get any better.

I got a hard time off a few of the kids at school, and I had people starring at me a lot of the time, especially when I was in my wheelchair, and it made me so upset, and I just continuously wished that it wasn’t me, and always asked why me? why not someone else?

You mentioned that you have scars on your body from the surgery, I also have extensive scarring on my leg, and it doesn’t really bother me that much anymore, and I have had people who have said that they are proud of me, that I can flaunt what I have, and not be ashamed of it, but then I have people who make negative comments about my scars. You’re such an inspiration, you get up, in front of huge audiences and tell your story. I don’t think I could ever stand up in front of that many people, and tell them my story, I have told people what happened, and ended up in tears, trying to tell them, because I have flashbacks, and I can clearly see and hear things that happened within the time that I was extremely sick.

Also, I was wondering, you said that you died twice. I almost died twice, the first time I came closer to dying than the second. I had septic shock, causing my organs to shut down.
but my question is, they say that you see a white light when you are going to die…
when I was in the intensive care unit, in the coma, I saw a white light, and my uncle (who died when I was in primary school) was standing there, and he told me that he would look after me, and that I was going to be fine.

did you see that light? was there someone there talking to you?

I don’t really know anyone that has had the same type of experience as I have, and I just thought it would be interesting to see it from someone else’s perspective.

Having been a teenaged girl myself, back then, the only outlet accessible to those of us seeking advice were ‘Dear Editor’ sections in teen/fashion magazines. The very magazines which often made us feel inadequate and insecure within ourselves as they were emblazoned with seemingly perfect models and celebrities on and within their covers. As a result, so many teens- my self included; had unrealistic expectations as to how our bodies should look.

Finally, here is a book/how-to guide for those who want to feel more positive about themselves as it provides a real insight into the negative impact the media often has on body image. It’s ‘to the point’ and easy to read- if only I could have looked to such a book when I was younger! In my opinion this is a must-have book for every teen and I will be passing my copy on to my 19 year old cousin.

You have probably heard this from lots of people, but I would just like to say thank you so much for giving that presentation today to my peers and teachers and me (Mentone Grammar School). You are such a wonderful person and very strong. You mentioned today and asked us ‘WHO are your role models?’ I have to say, you are one of them I was blown away today by your strength and courage.

I was extremely excited to have met Lisa Cox during her presentation at Roseville Catholic College.

I’ve never seen such enthusiasms and positive spirits from a young woman who has been through lots. She’s made see life at a different perspective. She’s not only opened my heart & soul to be happy, but she’s definitely put a smile on other student(s) faces, during her presentation at Roseville Catholic College.
